Boards Around a Barbecue: Insulation, Enclosure and Support

Vitcas Fireplace Construction Board for specified assemblies

A board around the barbecue can create a protective surface or a layer limiting heat flow. None of these functions should be equated with carrying the weight of any countertop, roof, or grate. In the construction drawing, assign a specific task to each element before selecting a product.

Mark supports separately from protection

Break down the weight of the equipment and the path of transferring it to the ground. Check where the load is transferred through a bracket or screw, and where it is distributed over a larger surface. The method of mounting should correspond both to the load and to work during heating.

The enclosure near the firebox should not accidentally become the only support for a part for which it was not designed. If you change the countertop or add a roof, you need to recheck its support. A high temperature rating does not describe this change.

Choose the board according to its role

Vitcas Fireplace Construction Board CS is a construction board for specified fireplace applications. The current data sheet indicates internal use. This alone does not confirm the fabrication of a barbecue enclosure exposed to the weather.

Vitcas HT Fireboard has different properties and functions in specified protective assemblies. Ceramic fibre board provides a rigid insulation format in compatible systems. Material requirements include placement, support, fastening, and shielding, not just thickness.

Check connections before decorative finishing

Mark contacts with metal, corners, and places where water might reach. Adhesive and surface coating should not be chosen independently of the board. Confirmation of external application must include the entire intended set and the conditions of its use.

Before covering, do a trial fit of removable parts and check access to fastenings. Record the product names on the cross-section and specify their function next to them. During later repairs, this will help distinguish between a finishing problem and a support or insulation problem.
